Mickey s a defense lawyer, one of the best in the business, and to switch sides like this would be akin to asking a fox to guard the hen-house. But the high-profile case of Jason Jessup, a convicted child-killer who spent almost 25 years on death row before DNA evidence freed him, is an intriguing one - particularly since the DA s determination to re-charge and re-try him for the same crime seems doomed to failure. Eager for the publicity and drawn to the challenge, Mickey takes the case, with Detective Harry Bosch on board as his lead investigator. But as a new trial date is set, it starts to look like he s been set up, with the renewed prosecution merely a tactic to prevent Jessup from successfully suing the state and county for millions of dollars. To avoid humiliation, Mickey and Harry are going to have to dig deep into the past and find the truth about Melissa Landy and what really happened to her all those years ago.

Author: MICHAEL CONNELLY Publisher: ORION

like this one. After the initial horror, he recognised the reference to the surrealist painter,
Magritte. But that made the crime even more sickening – accomplished, as it had been,
with a sickening ferocity which placed it in another league from common or garden
homicide.
In the Whitechapel area of London in the 1880s, a person, who remains unidentified to
this day, committed a series of sadistic murders of local prostitutes, which involved
elaborate mutilation of the victims’ bodies.
Although the contemporary crimes are not directed exclusively at female targets, there is
grotesque similarity in the mindset of the two perpetrators – divided, as they are, by more
than a century. But Pendragon is determined that his pathologically brilliant killer will not
escape detection.
THE ART OF MURDER reveals Michael White’s mastery of a crime genre that he is making
uniquely his own.

Author: White, Michael Publisher: Random House

For James, that stranger is awakened when his wife Arlette proposes selling off the family homestead and moving to Omaha, setting in motion a gruesome train of murder and madness. In Big Driver , a cozy-mystery writer named Tess encounters the stranger is along a back road in Massachusetts when she takes a shortcut home after a book-club engagement. Violated and left for dead, Tess plots a revenge that will bring her face to face with another stranger: the one inside herself. twelve murders.
The year is 1967 and the world teeters on the brink of nuclear holocaust
as the Cold War goes relentlessly on. On a beautiful spring day in the
little city of Holloman, Connecticut, chief of detectives Carmine
Delmonico walks into the prestigious Chubb University halls to be

from it. And this is just the beginning. Twelve murders have taken place
in one day and suddenly Carmine has more pressing matters on his
hands than finding a name for his newborn son.
Supported by his detective sergeants, and new team member – the
meticulous Delia Carstairs – Delmonico embarks on what look likes an
unsolvable mystery. All the murders are different. Are they dealing with
one killer or many?
And if twelve murders were not enough, Carmine soon finds himself pitted against the mysterious
spy, Ulysses – who is giving local arms giant Cornucopia's military secrets to the Russians. Are
the murders and espionage different cases, or are they somehow linked?

Author: COLLEEN MCCOLLOUGH Publisher: HARPER COLLINS

A new president means a new approach to counter-terrorism, and that means covert agent Scot Harvath is out of a job. But every politician has a secret, and when the daughter of a highly-connected family is kidnapped abroad, America’s new leader will agree to anything – even a crazily dangerous rescue plan– to keep his secret hidden. And there is only one man he can call on to execute the mission. The Apostle is a blistering novel of action and duplicity from the Number One New York Times bestseller Brad Thor.

Author: Thor, Brad Publisher: Hachette Book Group USA

What else he wants propels the young lovers on a tortuous journey through Paris to a safe house in the Swiss Alps, to the murkiest cloisters of the City of London and its unholy alliance with Britain's Intelligence Establishment.

The first novel in The
Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families-
American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh-as they move through
the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution,
and the struggle for women's suffrage. Thirteen-year-old Billy Williams
enters a man's world in the Welsh mining pits...Gus Dewar, an American
law student rejected in love, finds a surprising new career in Woodrow
Wilson's White House...two orphaned Russian brothers, Grigori and Lev
Peshkov, embark on radically different paths half a world apart when their
plan to emigrate to America falls afoul of war, conscription, and
revolution...

Billy's sister, Ethel, a housekeeper for the aristocratic Fitzherberts, takes a fateful step above her station, while Lady Maud Fitzherbert
herself crosses deep into forbidden territory when she falls in love with Walter von Ulrich, a spy at the German embassy in London...

These characters and many others find their lives inextricably entangled as, in a saga of unfolding drama and intriguing complexity, Fall
of Giants moves seamlessly from Washington to St. Petersburg, from the dirt and danger of a coal mine to the glittering chandeliers of a
palace, from the corridors of power to the bedrooms of the mighty. As always with Ken Follett, the historical background is brilliantly
researched and rendered, the action fast-moving, the characters rich in nuance and emotion. It is destined to be a new classic.

In future volumes of The Century Trilogy, subsequent generations of the same families will travel through the great events of the rest of
the twentieth century, changing themselves-and the century itself. With passion and the hand of a master, Follett brings us into a world
we thought we knew, but now will never seem the same again.

Author: KEN FOLLET Publisher: PENGUIN INDIA

Epic prelude to the classic spy trilogy, GAME, SET and MATCH, that
follows the fortunes of a German dynasty during two world wars.
Winter takes us into a large and complex family drama, into the lives of two
German brothers - both born close upon the turn of the century, both so caught
up in the currents of history that their story is one with the story of their country,
from the Kaiser's heyday through Hitler's rise and fall. A novel that rings
powerfully true, a rich and remarkable portrait of Germany in the first half of the
twentieth century.
In his portrait of a Berlin family during the turbulent years of the first half of the
century, Len Deighton has created a compelling study of the rise of Nazi
Germany.
With its meticulous research, rich detail and brilliantly drawn cast of characters,
Winter is a superbly realized achievement.

Author: LEN DEIGHTON Publisher: HARPER COLLINS

You have shown little or no remorse for your actions and I consider you a danger to society.”
When defence barrister Geoffrey Mason hears the judge’s verdict, he quietly hopes that a long and arduous custodial sentence will be handed down to his arrogant young client. That Julian Trent only receives eight years seems all too lenient. Little does Mason expect that he’ll be looking Trent in the eyes again much sooner than he’d ever imagined. Setting aside his barrister’s wig, Mason heads to Sandown to don his racing silks.

An amateur jockey, his true passion is to be found in the saddle on a Thoroughbred, pounding the turf in the heat of a steeplechase. But when a fellow rider is brutally murdered – a pitchfork driven through his chest – Mason’s racing life soon becomes all too close to his working life. The prime suspect is one of their brethren, champion jockey Steve Mitchell; the evidence is overwhelming. Mason is reluctant to heed Mitchell’s pleas for legal advice – but soon he finds himself at the centre of a sinister web of threat and intimidation. Mason is left fighting a battle of right and wrong, and more immediately, a battle of life and death… his own.

Author: Francis, Dick & Francis, Felix Publisher: MICHAEL JOSEPH

In her more than twenty novels, psychopaths lie in wait amid the milieu of the mundane, in the neighbor clipping the hedges or the spouse asleep next to you at night. Now, Norton continues the revival of this noir genius with two more of her lost masterpieces The Blunderer, first published in 1953 and hailed as her finest novel, about the rise and fall of a faithful suburban husband who plots his wife's demise in fantasies gruesome and eerily serene; and a later work from 1983, People Who Knock on the Door, a tale about blind faith and the slippery notion of justice that lies beneath the peculiarly American veneer of righteousness. Both novels, out of print for years, again attest to Highsmith's reputation as the poet of apprehension (Graham Greene).

Author: Highsmith, Patricia Publisher: PENGUIN

In Deep Water, set in the small town of Little Wesley, Vic and Melinda Meller's loveless marriage is held together only by a precarious arrangement whereby in order to avoid the messiness of divorce, Melinda is allowed to take any number of lovers as long as she does not desert her family. Eventually, Vic tries to win her back by asserting himself through a tall tale of murderone that soon comes true. The stories collected in Mermaids on the Golf Course are among Highsmith's most mature, psychologically penetrating works. As in the title story, in which a man's brush with death endows his everyday desires with tragic consequences, the warm familiarities of middleclass life becomes the eerie setting for Highsmith's chilling portrayals of violence, secrecy, and madness.

Author: Highsmith, Patricia Publisher: PENGUIN
